The Forty Mile Rail yard in Foremost will see an upgrade after announcement was made at the end of the last month.
It was on Aug. 26, that the honourable Amrajeet Sohi, Minister of Natural Resources Canada and MP for Edmonton-Mill Woods announced an investment of $4.2 million to improve capacity of the regional transportation network in southern Alberta to move Canadian goods to international markets.
Forty Mile Rail’s project will involve the upgrading of the transload facility and improving the Cardston subdivision line.
The existing infrastructure restricts the number of cars that can be move on the line to 25 cars at a time, which reduces the capacity and efficiency of the line.
With improvements, there will be an increase in the line’s annual number of agriculture carloads for export from 263 loads in 2018 to 4,000 car loads a year in the short term and 15,000 in the long term.
Both projects will create 95 jobs in the region during construction.
