Schuler School’s theme this year is “Let’s Give Back, Not Sit Back,” which has allowed the students to focus on giving back to their community.
“We just thought we have been very fortunate here at Schuler School with having a brand new school and a beautiful gym that Drowning Ford helped us with,” said Kerrie Watson, school principal.
“We just felt it was good that our kids needed to realize how fortunate they are in that there are things that we can do to give back to our community. The Let’s Give Back, Not Sit Back idea just kind of came from that conversation with staff.”
Watson says that once a month there is a hot lunch at the school and proceeds go to the Hope Street Church fundraiser.
The school hosted a bake sale on Friday and the proceeds from that are going to the same fundraiser as well.
With the Christmas season in full swing, goodies are being made and being delivered around Schuler.
“Whatever we can do to give back to our community and let people know that we do appreciate everything we have going here,” she said.
The kids participated in colouring brown bags in conjunction with the RCMP, which get the message out of not drinking and driving during Christmas and will be distributed to liquor stores in town.
The students have been also busy with celebrating 12 days of Christmas where several activities have been taking place throughout the month including ornament making, buddy reading, hot chocolate and cartoons, a game night, a pajama day, Christmas Hat Day, and a Christmas lunch and formal day.
