A letter of concern was sent to the County of Forty Mile on concerns of unsightly premise on a significant number of vacant lots in Etzikom.
It was expressed in the letter that lots are being neglected and not being taken care of.
County council reviewed the letter at their June 23 meeting
“There’s risks of snakes being in this tall grass, other wild life being in the tall grass,” said Steve Wikkerink, county reeve.
“As the heat comes, the tall grass dries up, you do increase your fire risk.I think there’s some buildings there that (have) some open windows and doors. So, yeah it’s a safety hazard—there’s young children in that community— and so we had a pretty good discussion on that.”
The County will look into whether the clean up would be done by the owners of the lots or after a periopd of time, the municipality would go in and do clean up and bill the lot owners.
