Are you looking to make a meaningful impact in your community while gaining valuable experience and meeting new people? The Town of Bow Island is calling for passionate, community-minded individuals to fill positions on several key boards and committees, and to volunteer across a wide range of opportunities. 

Bow Island has a variety of boards and committees with open positions, each playing a crucial role in the community:

• Municipal Planning Commission (MPC): This body serves as the Development Authority, handling the land use bylaws and ensuring orderly development in Bow Island. It’s a perfect fit for anyone interested in urban planning and development.

• Municipal Library Board: Overseeing the Susan Andersen Library, this board is responsible for budgets and operations, ensuring that our library continues to serve as a cornerstone of education and learning.

• Recreation Advisory Board: Advising on recreation and cultural needs, this board gathers community feedback to help enhance recreational facilities and activities.

• Tourism Action Committee: This active committee is involved in promoting local businesses and organizing community events like the Harvest Festival, making it ideal for anyone passionate about tourism and community engagement.

• Safe Streets and Community Protection Committee: A new initiative focused on crime prevention and safety. This is your chance to help shape strategies for a safer community.

Volunteering

While board positions offer a structured way to influence local governance and policy making, Bow Island also brims with a variety of volunteer opportunities that cater to a wide array of interests and skills. Beyond the boardroom, you can dive into roles that support community events, deliver essential services, and engage in enriching activities across various organizations.

• Bow Island Fire Department: Join a team dedicated to safeguarding our community. Volunteers are essential in supporting the department’s operations, from emergency response to community outreach programs.

• North 40 Mile Recreational Committee: Help shape the recreational landscape of our area by contributing to planning and organizing local sports and recreational activities.

• North 40 Mile Tourism Committee: Be part of a dynamic group promoting tourism in the region. Volunteers assist in event planning and marketing efforts to boost local tourism.

• North 40 Mile Handy-Bus Society: Support community mobility by volunteering with this service that provides transportation for seniors and those with disabilities.

• Forty Mile Regional FCSS: Engage in social services and programs designed to support families and individuals, fostering a healthier community.

• Bow Island Children’s Festival: Help bring joy and creativity to life by assisting in planning and executing this annual festival filled with fun activities for children.

• 4H Clubs: Encourage youth development through agriculture, leadership, and life skills programs by volunteering with local 4H clubs.

• Bow Island Elks & Bow Island Lions: Join these service organizations to help with charitable activities, fundraising events, and community projects.

• Bow Island Curling Club: Share your love of curling by volunteering at the club, helping to organize leagues and events that keep this winter sport thriving.

• Golden Age Centre: Support our seniors by volunteering at this centre, offering companionship and organizing activities for our older residents.

• Bow Island Girls Club: Empower young girls through mentorship and program development aimed at fostering confidence and skills.

• North Forty Mile Food Bank & Meals on Wheels: Fight hunger and support food security by helping with food distribution and meal delivery to those in need.

• Bow Island Minor Hockey & Minor Baseball: Nurture young athletes by helping to coach, organize, and support local sports teams.

• Emergency Management Committee: Play a critical role in community safety by volunteering in emergency preparedness and response initiatives.
