Town of Bow Island Council met on April 28 to discuss important matters affecting local residents and businesses. Among other items, two significant bylaws were on the agenda and a decision was discussed signalling cost-saving measures for residents, regarding the recycling fee on utility bills.
Tax Rate Bylaw 2025:05
Council did the final reading of Tax Rate Bylaw 2025:05, which sets the property tax rates for the coming year. This bylaw ensures the municipality can meet its estimated expenditures for 2025, totalling $5,948,210. With revenues of $3,764,766 expected from non-tax sources, the remaining $2,183,444 will be funded by municipal taxation.
Residential property owners will face a tax rate of 8.8785, while non-residential properties will see a tax rate of 11.6199. Farmland and machinery receive adjusted rates. The bylaw also included education requisitions and a mandatory minimum tax of $200 per property. Taxes will be due by August 15, 2025, with penalties for late payments after the deadline.
Special Tax Bylaw 2025:06
Council also discussed and did three readings of Special Tax Bylaw 2025:06, which imposes a water maintenance tax of $1.25 per front foot. This special tax will help maintain the water utility infrastructure that benefits the entire town. The tax will be included with regular property taxes.
