Get ready to hit the trails for a cause that truly matters. The Coal Burner 5K Cross Country F-RUN-draiser is taking place on Saturday, September 27, in Redcliff. This event combines fitness, fun, and philanthropy, inviting participants of all ages to traverse the trails—all while supporting the programs of the Redcliff Youth Centre.

The Redcliff Youth Centre, in partnership with the Town of Redcliff and Redcliff Family & Community Support Services, and sponsored by the Redcliff Lions Club, Broker Link, and Culligan Water, are behind this family-friendly event.

Proceeds from the event benefit the Redcliff Youth Centre, a local organization dedicated to empowering youth through educational, recreational, and life-skill programs. From free prevention programs to meal services, the centre provides a safe, supportive environment for learning and growth. Adding to the excitement, FUN-TIMEZ Entertainment will host surprises along the course to keep spirits high and energy levels up.

This event welcomes everyone, regardless of age or fitness level. Feel free to race to the finish line, enjoy a leisurely jog, or take in the views at a walking pace—it’s all about having fun and giving back! After the run, everyone is invited to stay and enjoy local food/treat trucks on site and celebrate the close of a great day and a great cause.

“The Coal Burner Run isn’t just about running, it’s about coming together as a community to support our youth,” says Janae Ulrich, Event Organizer/Executive Director of the Redcliff Youth Centre. “With the incredible support of the Town of Redcliff and sponsors, we’re excited to host an event that brings people together, celebrates Redcliff’s trails, and fuels the future of our young people. Whether you sprint, jog, or walk, we encourage everyone to come out and enjoy this special day.”

On the day of the event, check in is 10 am and the 5K starts at 11 am. Registration is open now, with early bird rates available until August 31. Registrants will receive a race package, including an event t-shirt, a Coal Burner medal, and a race bib. Registration fees are on the Redcliff Youth Centre website. The final registration deadline is September 20, 2025, so don’t wait! Secure your spot online today.

Consider volunteering or becoming a sponsor for the event. Businesses and individuals who sponsor the Coal Burner 5K will receive prominent exposure before, during, and after the race. For sponsorship opportunities and volunteer inquiries, contact rasysocial@gmail.com or call 403-548-2811.

The Redcliff Youth Centre was established in 1990. Its mission is to ensure no youth has to face life’s challenges alone. With a focus on mentorship, developmental programs, and trauma-informed care, the centre equips young people with the tools they need to thrive.

One in three North American youth grows up without a mentor or role model. That absence can lead to higher rates of risky behaviour, mental health challenges, and school dropouts. However, research proves that just one positive influence in a young person’s life can drastically reduce these risks. By supporting the Coal Burner 5K, you’re helping ensure that every youth in Redcliff has access to the resources they need.

So, what are you waiting for? Register, lace up, and make a difference while having fun. Head over to the Redcliff Youth Centre’s website to get started.
