The Town of Redcliff’s council meeting on March 9 covered a range of topics, from community initiatives to policy updates. Here are the key highlights:

The meeting began with the adoption of the February 23 minutes, which included several notable decisions:

• Support for 670 Collective Mountain Bike Club: Council approved a letter of support, in principle, for the 670 Mountain Bike Collective’s efforts to pursue trail connectivity on provincial grazing lease lands within the Town boundary. This support is conditional on provincial authorization and leaseholder consultation, with no financial or operational responsibility for the Town.

• Special Olympics Canada Games Support: Council approved the use of the Town’s digital logo, provision of Redcliff pins, and an appearance by the Clifton Fox mascot at the 2026 High Five Fest in support of the Special Olympics.

• Telling Your Story Video: A $500 video project with Craig Baird of Canadian History Ehx was approved to highlight the Town’s story, funded from the advertising budget.

• Eastside Phase 2 Development Project: Council authorized a $51,300 change order for the Eastside Phase 2 Development Project to proceed with outlined work.

• Broadway Avenue Railway Crossing Rehabilitation: Council approved the rehabilitation project using CPKC’s standard crossing design.

As the meeting progressed to new business, Council discussed plans for PITCH-IN Week, anticipated to run from April 19-25, 2026, coinciding with Earth Day on April 22. During this week, Redcliff council is considering benefits for residents such as free dumping at the landfill for household and yard waste, with proof of residency required. Certain items, such as construction waste and hazardous materials, would still incur fees.

Residents will also be encouraged to participate in a community-wide cleanup effort. Supplies, including gloves, safety vests, and garbage bags, would be available at Town Hall. Council members are invited to join the initiative, which aims to beautify the community and promote environmental stewardship.

Council reviewed proposed updates to Policy No. 122, which currently requires Redcliff Fire Department volunteers to live or work within the Town. To address recruitment challenges, the updated policy would allow recruitment of volunteers residing within a 10-minute response time to the Fire Hall, including nearby areas in Medicine Hat and Cypress County. This change aims to expand the recruitment pool while maintaining timely emergency response capabilities.

The Town of Redcliff is embracing emerging technologies with the introduction of Policy No. 157, which sets standards for the ethical and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Town employees would be permitted to use AI tools for work-related tasks, provided they comply with the policy’s guidelines. Council recommended approving the policy as presented, reflecting the Town’s commitment to innovation and efficiency.

The March 9 meeting showcased the Town of Redcliff’s dedication to community engagement, environmental responsibility, and forward-thinking policies. From supporting local events to adopting new technologies, Council continues to prioritize initiatives that benefit residents and enhance the quality of life in Redcliff.
