Bow Island RCMP are investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway Three, near Bow Island on Saturday afternoon.
RCMP were dispatched at 2:25 p.m., on Saturday, July 18 to a two-vehicle serious injury collision on Highway 3, approximately 300 metres west of 879, and 2 kilometres West of Bow Island, Alberta.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that a Chevrolet pickup truck had been westbound on Highway 3, approaching an eastbound Ford sedan, when the Chevrolet crossed into the lane of eastbound traffic and into the path of the Ford. The roadway is an undivided two-lane highway at this juncture.
The female, middle aged, driver, and sole occupant of the Ford was found deceased at the scene, while the middle aged male driver, and sole occupant of the Chevrolet sustained serious injuries and has been transported to the nearest major hospital. The investigation thus far indicates that alcohol may have been a factor in the cause of this accident.
Highway 3 will be closed to east and westbound traffic while the investigation continues, with westbound traffic being routed north, and eastbound traffic diverted south. The RCMP will advise when the highway is again open for traffic in both directions.
