A muddy good time in Hilda

Darren Yanke churns up the mud with his truck, the "Red Cadillac", much to the delight of the HIlda mud bog crowd last Saturday afternoon.

A good crowd came out to Hilda on Saturday to support the hamlet’s annual Mud Bog event. This year saw 32 drivers competing to see who would be the fastest and the dirtiest at the end of the day. Awards were also given out for the crowds’ favourite runs and vehicles.
The weather cooperated fantastically with sunny skies and hot temperatures making sunscreen and hats an absolute must for the 500 or so spectators in attendence.
After the drivers got the jitters out of their system, and the kinks out of their vehicles, on a mostly tentative first run, they knuckled down to challenge the soupy sludge with vigour and energy through three more rounds. Throwing plumes of mud and water over 30 feet in the air in some instances, the wide variety of trucks and jeeps delighted the crowd and made for an extremely entertaining day in Hilda.
