Redcliff Town Council came together on April 14, to review and make decisions on several matters critical to the community. From bylaw amendments to sustainability initiatives, the meeting centered on enhancing services and preparing for the future.

Bylaw No. 1989/2025, sought to amend Bylaw No. 1642/2010 concerning the Industrial Drive Road Rehabilitation Project. The revisions address parcel changes resulting from recent subdivisions or consolidations within the community. By adopting these updates, council ensures that local improvement tax bills accurately reflect the current allocation across impacted properties.

Council was requested, from Gordon Memorial United Church, a temporary road closure to host their annual “Blessing of the Bikes” event on Sunday, May 4, 2025, from 10 am to 1 pm. The event, which attracts approximately 50 motorcycles and riders, will require the closure of 4th Avenue SE between 2nd Street SE and 3rd Street SE to ensure safety for attendees. Barricades would be provided for the church to manage the closure, and administration would coordinate setup and removal.

Council discussed the Southeast Alberta Chamber of Commerce’s proposal to host a pre-election workshop titled “So You Think You Want to Run for Office?” Led by George Cuff, the session aims to educate potential candidates on the responsibilities of public office. The workshop would come at a cost of $1,332.34 to the town.

Sustainability was a key topic as council explored the potential installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. Two program models are available. The first involves no upfront costs for the town, with a revenue-sharing arrangement where the municipality would retain 40% of income generated by the chargers. The second model would require the town to purchase charging stations and apply for government rebates.

A $99,870 contract for the town’s Outdoor Fitness Gym Equipment Project will be awarded to Canadian Recreation Solutions. With a $100,000 project budget, the single proposal received met the town’s financial and technical criteria. Administration will now work with the proponent to finalize equipment selection, colour schemes, and site layout. This initiative aims to promote health and wellness among residents by providing outdoor exercise options.

The next council session is expected to bring further updates on these initiatives as Redcliff continues to prioritize quality of life for its residents.
