The County of Forty Mile No. 8 convened its regular council meeting on June 25, 2025. The session provided updates on key projects and community matters of significance to local residents. Below is a summary of the key discussions and decisions made during the meeting along with other notices pertinent to daily life in the county.
The latest developments from a recent Highway 3 Twinning Commission meeting show that the project remains on schedule for completion in 2026, though opening individual sections of the highway before the project’s full completion has been deemed infeasible. The Counties of Lethbridge and Pincher Creek are no longer participating members of the Commission. Currently, progress faces delays due to unresolved issues with land acquisitions. However, the Medicine Hat-to-Whitla section is ready for construction, signaling a step forward in this multi-phase infrastructure project.
The council reviewed a presentation regarding proposed changes to the dock pin allotment process at 40 Mile Park. It was recommended that the traditional annual draw be replaced with a presale system for seasonal lots. Sales are expected to commence in July, offering a more streamlined and predictable user experience for lot allocations. Furthermore, new clarification from the provincial government outlines permissible modifications to golf carts, which will support park users in adhering to regulations while improving accessibility and convenience.
Recent OH&S inspections identified multiple areas for improvement within the County’s operations. To address these findings, the County has been served a Notice to Produce along with compliance orders. These measures are not punitive but proactive, aimed at strengthening occupational health and safety practices within the County’s jurisdiction. Ensuring compliance with OH&S standards remains a priority as the County works to maintain a safe environment for all employees and community members.
Note that there is roadwork on Range Road 121 south of Burdett during August. The upgrades include gravel hauling and fresh oiling along segments from Township Road 94 to areas north of Township Road 100. Additionally, patching is planned between Highway 3 and Township Road 90.
Residents are reminded that livestock in hamlets is prohibited without a permit. Those looking to keep cows, chickens, pigs, and goats should visit the official County of Forty Mile website for details on the livestock-related restrictions and the permit process.
The County has a commitment to progress, transparency, and the well-being of its residents. From infrastructure upgrades to improved safety measures, Council continues to address the needs of the community while planning for the future.
