Redcliff council hopeful Lindberg says it’s time for new voices

Korey Lindberg believes he has a new perspective that Redcliff council needs.

A Redcliff resident for more than 20 years, Lindberg says he has always harboured an interest in politics.

“Since a young age, I was interested in politics. Probably more on a federal level, but over time, I learned that more political influence over our daily lives comes from our municipal levels,” he told Southern Alberta Newspapers on Oct. 2.

Lindberg works as a coal miner with Elk Valley Resources across the border in British Columbia. He previously spent 20-plus years working in the oil fields.

This is Lindberg’s first bid for council. If he’s elected, he says he has expanded recreation and community safety top of mind.

He would like to see crosswalks and lights installed on Broadway Avenue to improve pedestrian safety in the town centre. He’s also interested in pushing for a multipurpose recreation facility like the Big Marble Go Centre in Medicine Hat.

“Although Crescent Heights is fairly close, I think Redcliff is at a size now that we need to have more of these things in our own community, rather than relying on Medicine Hat all the time,” he said.

The main thing Lindberg says he can offer to council is a fresh point of view.

“I think our town council has been made up of the same people for so many years, it’s just time for a change.”

Lindberg says he can bring new ideas to a council that has relied on the same perspectives for a long time.

“I have a lot of experience working in small towns, living in small towns, pretty much all my life. With my work history, I’ve been all around Western Canada and even Australia in small communities,” he said.

“I’ve seen a lot of the positives and negatives in towns. And there’s things I’ve picked up from all around that I’d like to bring to Redcliff.”

Leading up to the election, Lindberg says he plans to be out into the community.

“As we get closer to the election date, I’ve got more things planned. I’ll be meeting people and knocking on doors.”

On Oct. 5, Lindberg and a few other candidates hosted a meet and greet at the Redcliff Senior Centre.
