Dan Hamilton returns as Reeve of Cypress County

When the ballots were counted in October, Dan Hamilton was thrilled to learn he was returning as the Reeve of Cypress County.

“It’s an honour to be in this position,” he shares. “It means your peers are looking to you for leadership.”

He has plenty of experience in being a leader.

“This is my 8th year as Reeve,” says Hamilton, “but I wouldn’t say it’s ‘nothing new.’ In fact, everything is changing! So, right now this is a really positive position to be in.”

What are those changes? Hamilton says the change in the motivations and energy of County, its council, and its staff, are incredibly dynamic.

“This council is really looking to the future and looking at moving things forward. We have a very positive outlook.”

He cites the Dunmore Junction as one such project, along with the utilities and infrastructure to bring it to life. Another example is the continued drive to attract substantial businesses into the County.

“I am really looking forward to this term,” Hamilton says. “I ran because there are so many positive initiatives going forward. The staff are keyed up and ready to go, so let’s go! There is no more status quo. Everyone has bought into the idea of moving ahead and looking to the future, and that means things are starting to move fast.”

As a public figure, Hamilton is not one to shy away from the proverbial elephants in the room. Recently, he was named as the person providing information to MLA Justin Wright; information that was erroneously presented by Wright in the legislature.

Hamilton is forthright about the incident, and about Bill 4. “It was a miscommunication,” he shares. “We are not mad at the RCMP. We understand staffing issues, and we understand what is going on in the world today. However, we are asking the province why we are paying for something that we are not receiving.”

Ultimately, Hamilton is here for the successes, the challenges, and everything in between.

“Thank you for voting,” he concludes. “I am going to do the best I can for Cypress County!”
